Build a WooCommerce shop that takes real orders: products, UK delivery, Stripe and PayPal, VAT settings, legal pages and a mobile-friendly checkout, set up in the right order and launched with a checklist.

Who this course is for

This course is for people who can already build a WordPress site with Elementor and now want to sell online, either for their own business, for a client, or as a practice brand they can show in a portfolio. Most WooCommerce tutorials stop at "add a product". This one carries on into the questions that come next for a UK shop: how to charge more for the Highlands and Northern Ireland, what to do about VAT if you are or are not registered, why order emails land in spam, which parts need Elementor Pro, and what you legally have to show on the site. If you want to open a shop that is ready for real customers, or build one for a client and charge properly for it, this is the course.

What you should know first

This is an intermediate course, so it does not re-teach WordPress or Elementor basics. You should be comfortable logging in to WordPress, installing plugins, building a page with sections, containers and widgets in Elementor, and using Site Settings for colours and fonts. All of that is covered in the Begin2Code Elementor Beginner course, so start there if any of it feels new. You do not need any previous WooCommerce experience, and you do not need to write code. You will need a hosting account and a domain (or a staging site) you can install WordPress on; lesson 1.3 explains what to look for.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Plan a shop on paper, then install and configure WooCommerce on a fresh WordPress site with HTTPS, sensible store settings and the modern order storage (HPOS) in place.
  • Add simple and variable products with attributes, variation images, stock levels, categories and clear product photos.
  • Set up UK delivery zones for mainland UK, the Highlands and Islands and Northern Ireland, with flat rates, free delivery over a threshold, shipping classes for bulky items and click-and-collect.
  • Take card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal payments through Stripe and PayPal, and test every payment path before you switch to live mode.
  • Configure UK VAT rates and price display at a basic level, and know exactly which questions to take to an accountant.
  • Design branded shop, category and single product templates with Elementor, and know the free route if a client does not have Elementor Pro.
  • Build a fast, mobile-friendly block cart and checkout with branded, accurate order emails, plus the returns, terms and privacy pages a UK shop needs.
  • Run the shop day to day (orders, stock, refunds and customers), keep it secure and backed up, and launch it with a checklist and a simple plan for the first 90 days.

Your course project

Across the course you build the online shop for Pennine Paws Grooming, a dog grooming salon run by Jo Hartley at 14 Market Street, Hebden Bridge, HX7 6AF. Jo is VAT registered and wants to sell her own-brand grooming kit at penninepaws.co.uk, with orders going to orders@penninepaws.co.uk. The range is about 20 products: simple ones such as Oat and Aloe Dog Shampoo 250ml, Coat Conditioner Spray, Slicker Brush and a Starter Grooming Kit, and variable ones such as the Padded Lead and Padded Collar (sizes S, M and L in Moss, Mustard and Heather) and the bulky Cosy Dog Bed (M, L and XL).

Every "Try it yourself" task and every module's "Add to your project" step moves the shop forward. By the end you will have a live WooCommerce shop on the Hello Elementor theme with UK delivery zones, free delivery over £50, click-and-collect from the salon, Stripe and PayPal payments, the right VAT settings, branded shop and product templates, a block checkout, branded emails and UK legal pages. You can swap in your own business or a client's at any point; the structure stays the same. The finished shop becomes your capstone project, which Shaz reviews personally with written feedback.
